Transitions: Introduction to Digital Photography - Boulder Digital Arts

Day 1 The Digital SLR Camera - Steve Gandy

Overview

Welcome to Boulder Digital Arts' Transitions Digital Photography Program! In this one week certificate program you will learn how to operate a professional digital SLR camera, how to create an efficient digital workflow, perform basic photo editing in Photoshop and color management techniques for the highest quality output. Our goal is to have you leave on Friday feeling confident about your ability to work with a DSLR, shooting professional digital photos. You all received a detailed breakdown of the schedule via e-mail, and a paper copy is included in your folder. I'll be teaching the basics today, other expert instructors will be guiding you through the rest of the week. If you have questions or concerns at any time, please speak to myself or Kira, and we'll address them promptly.

Day 1

A thorough overview, review and explanation of all the technical settings and controls associated with digital photography on DSLRs. The morning's session will include the general orientation to your camera including the physical controls, exposure modes and compensations, metering modes, release modes, ISO and white balance.

The afternoon session be an exploration of focus and flash settings followed by an in depth look at the detailed menu settings for your camera. Be sure to have your PDF version of the manual on your computer! If time permits we will shoot for the last hour. The shooting will be a self assigned exercise based on the day's curriculum.

Thoughout the day please let me know what terms seem like "photographyESE" to you? Specific or jargon terms?

Learning digital photography, like all technical topics, is like a snake eating its own tail.

Keep in mind what you need today so you can ask questions.

Start your "Normal" list.
